PostRank Sunsetting as Separate Service and Google Reader Addon from May 1, 2012

See on Scoop.it - Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

PostRank was undoubtedly the best tool for see the social engagement of feed item in a RSS Feed and evaluate the popularity of a link. The problem is no other tool has grew up to be close to PostRank (Previously “AideRSS”).

That is why PostRank has become one of the most used plugin for Google Reader to isolate important stuffs from the noise.

That’s why couple of years ago, Google bought them and started to research on their ability to integrate it in their various tools. The major tool that Google thought was not Google Reader, rather it was Google Analytics. Google has integrated PostRank in their Social Metrics Tracking at http://analytics.blogspot.com/2012/03/capturing-value-of-social-media-using.html

Google has recently sent this email:

””“”“”“”“”“

It is bittersweet news that we remind our users that PostRank will be sunset on May 1, 2012.

The sweet part is that Google Analytics now allows you to conduct much of the same measurement and analytics that you’ve enjoyed through PostRank. We invite you to access the new Social reports within Google Analytics. If you don’t already have a Google Analytics account it’s free and easy to sign up. Learn more about the new Social reports in our blog post.

As of May 1st, PostRank.com, PostRank Analytics, Top Posts widgets, and Google Reader plugin, will be taken offline.

Regards,
The PostRank team

This means that you will not see PostRank as Google Reader plugin any more :-( This means that there will not be any tool in the world that can effectively identify best post from a RSS Feed. Though, I have a question still live in quora about it at http://www.quora.com/What-are-the-Alternatives-for-PostRank-to-Find-the-Importance-of-a-Post-in-a-RSS-Feed

But, this also calls for a new product development. RIP, PostRank.

Find Professional References through Facebook

Via Scoop.it - Social Media Marketing Tribune

So, you have a dream company you want to work in? You are constantly looking for people to connect with from your dream company. But, I hear a lot of people complaining that “I don’t have references to get a job there”. Well, if it was 5 years ago, that would be a fate you had to accept. But, at the age of Social Media, there is no reason in admitting it. So, if you don’t have any references or don’t know who you can connect to, then it is your fault. You really can use social media like Facebook find professionals references for job, business, and joint venture opportunity.

How Google Evaluates Links by Dave Naylor in Recent Link Evaluation Update by Google

Via Scoop.it - Google Algorithm

Dave Naylor writes about the recent Link Evaluation Update by Google. Google has not clearly mentioned what they have changed, but Dave gave his opinion.   My comments on the blog:   I also believe that Google does need to rethink about 301 redirects. Many blackhaters are using the strategy to increase their page rank. However, in 2010, Matt Cutts admitted that Google does not flow 100% link juice through 301 redirect (Source: http://www.marketingpilgrim.com/2010/03/google-confirms-301-redirects-result-in-pagerank-loss.html). But, I have also seen people buying PR domains just to increase their PR. I think Google should consider down-scoring 301 redirects from multiple sites and pass the link juice only from the best site only.   I still think Age of the domain is still important for scoring authority. But, the link age should be quite fresh. I mean fresh pages in old domains should rank higher.   One of the worst practice to manipulate rankings in SEO is using scrapbox and other blackhat and greyhat tools to blast backlinks, especially in social bookmarking and forum sites without any authority. Google might think of turning off any link juice from such sites. With Panda, Google has been concentrating more on Onpage Content Quality. But, with the Link Evaluation Update, they are more concentration on scoring sites based on the quality links they have, not the quantity of links.   Another thing, you missed in the Social Signal. Matt Cutts previously mentioned that they have the technology to see the quantity and quality of the social influence as well as the quality of the social influencer. So, in case of Social Signals, I think the main thing they want to see is not the quantity of link shares, but the quality of the link shares. Google has the keyword stemming technology and they also have the duplicate content identification technology. By combining together these technology, they really can identify, which site has built links with duplicate contents and which link was built voluntarily.   BTW, Google recently has made changes to their Privacy Policy. Can anyone think if that can help them evaluate link in better way. Since they can use AdSense and AdWords into their Algorithm now, how do you think it may impact link evaluation?
